History of Hamann Construction Company

When Conrad Hamann started his construction company in Manitowoc in 1933, horses and wagons filled the shop, laborers earned 15 cents an hour, and masons mixed lime with cement on the jobsite. Today, Hamann Construction Company builds with high-tech equipment and materials, but the company's solid workforce and commitment to quality work still remain.

"We have always maintained a workforce of experienced and dedicated people who take pride in a job well done," says Steve Hamann, President of Hamann Construction Company. "Our reputation of quality workmanship, reliability and integrity has remained constant through three generations of company management."

Conrad Hamann saw the company through the Great Depression and World War II and supervised the construction of such historic Manitowoc homes as the Dan Bleser residence on Lincoln Boulevard and the Guido Rahr home on Waldo Boulevard. Over the last five decades Conrad's son Howard, and Howard's two sons Steve and Jim, have widened the company's reach and positioned Hamann Construction Company as a leader in the industry in Northeast Wisconsin.

With a project portfolio ranging from industrial buildings to healthcare facilities to retail shops, Hamann Construction Company brings its honest approach to building to each new project. In the past few years, Hamann has been a familiar face at the Harbor Town development where it built the Holy Family Memorial Harbor Town Campus, Associated Bank-Harbor Town Center and the Starbucks strip mall.

Hamann Construction Company credits it's employees with the success of the company. For the more than 75 years that Hamann Construction Company has been in Manitowoc, Steve Hamann says he and his family have found the workforce to be not only willing and able, but loyal. "The average length of time that our workers have been with our company is 18 years," he says. "This translates into a real clarity and cohesiveness on any given project."
